The most common question new clients ask us at Pierced is “Why don’t you just use a piercing gun?”.
This is a completely fair question, as many people believe that piercing guns are a shortcut to a less painful and faster piercing experience, but unfortunately, that is not the case.
There are multiple answers to that question. Here are a few of the main reasons why we do not pierce our clients with a gun at Pierced.
Risks associated with being pierced by a gun:
- CROSS CONTAMINATION
- Many communal piercing guns cannot be fully sterilized, which increases the risk of spreading bloodborne pathogens. This can lead to serious illnesses or infections.
- BLUNT FORCE INJURY
- Piercing guns use a blunt object (jewelry) to force a hole into the body, which causes unnecessary trauma to the surrounding area.
- NO CUSTOM SIZING
- Piercing guns can only accommodate one size of the jewelry, and unfortunately, one size does not fit all. It is very important to have your jewelry sized to your unique anatomy.
- BUTTERFLY BACKS
- Although butterfly backs have been extremely popular in the past, they can actually harbor a lot of bacteria as they are much harder to clean.
Although piercing guns may seem like a quick alternative, they can leave long-lasting and negative effects on the body. To avoid putting our clients at risk, we have opted for a completely disposable piercing environment, where our piercers use one-use needles and tools.
The needles we use in our studios are made from laser-cut, Teflon coated, stainless steel. This makes them very easy to sterilize at a high temperature, unlike a piercing gun that is usually made from materials that can not withstand such a vigorous sterilization process. These stainless steel needles are also very sharp, which makes for a clean and quick piercing experience, that is much less invasive than a gun. Once the piercing process is over, we then dispose of the needles and tools in a safe manner, and they are never reused on another client again.
We know that needles can seem intimidating, but hopefully, this article can help you to make an informed decision about your next piercing. To book an appointment with us at one of our studios please give your desired location a call.
