Antitragus Piercing - Q & A

Antitragus Piercing - Q & A

Looking for a unique and fun way to express your personality and style? Then the Anti tragus piercing might be just what you’re looking for.

But before you choose one way or the other, let’s dig in deep on exactly what this piercing is, and is not, as well as answer all of Newmarket resident’s most burning questions about this interesting addition to their bodies.

What is a Bridge / Antitragus Piercing?

An antitragus piercing, or anti-tragus piercing, creates a perforation on the inner cartilage of the ear proximal to the earlobe that faces the “tragus”. If all that sounds a little complicated, it’s not, trust us.

You know that piece of cartilage and protrusion or “nub” just above and slightly backwards from your earlobe? Well, that’s where this piercing resides. Opposite of your tragus, hence the term “antitragus”.

Those individuals with a well-pronounced “nub” that is on the thinner side, are usually the best candidates for this type of piercing. For those individuals where the antitragus isn’t very prominent, they may want to consider other options.

What Type of Jewelry does an Anti-tragus Piercing Require?

The typical type of jewelry utilized is a 16-14 gauge press-fit or internally threaded post, but the placement makes for both a unique display as well as a perfect place for ornate jewelry options.

Other possibilities include:

  • Curved barbells
  • Circular horseshoe barbells
  • Spiral barbells
  • And Studs

What is the Process of Getting Piered Like?

When it comes to the actual act of getting pierced, many individuals worry about the “unknown”. But have no fear, the process is quick, simple, and mostly painless (though pain is subjective and varies depending on the individual.

After signing the appropriate consent documents you’ll be taken into the piercing studio where the actual procedure will be carried out. From there you’ll be seated in a comfy and relaxing seat (similar to those used in doctor’s offices).

Thoroughly clean the skin with a speciality skin prep, mark the placement after taking a few measurements and then once you give us your stamp of approval, we re-prep the skin to prepare for piercing.

This type of piercing is done utilizing a straight or curved sterilized needle to pierce the anti tragus. Once the needle has passed through and is removed a piece of jewelry of your choice will be put in its place.
